Crosscultural
Dialogues are designed to bring students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in touch with their counterparts around the world and let the young men and women debate the questions of mutual interest. Connected via Internet, students talk about international and local issues facing people in different countries, explore their differences, and identify points of agreement. The exchange is facilitated by civic culture and social science educators who identify discussion topics, help students formulate their positions, and teach them to look critically at the pressing issues of the day. The dialogue questions and student answers are posted on the site of the Center for Democratic, the UNLV institution promoting civic education and civility in public discourse through research, scholarly exchange, and community-based programs. The first crosscultural dialogue addressed the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City that shook the United States on September 11, 2001, and the Nord-Ost Siege that lead to numerous casualties in Russia’s capital Moscow on October 10, 2002. Relations between Russia and the European Union have badly slipped in the last year while the Russian-American relationships are in the state of crisis. In July 2014, the Pew Research Center published its global survey data showing the rise of negative attitudes toward the Russian Federation. In Latin America, 45% of respondents expressed their mistrust of Russia (compared to 38% in 2013), 72% of Americans disapproved Russia (43% in 2013), and 74% of Europeans (54% in 2013). In December 2014, the Levada Center conducted a survey in which 74% of Russian respondents registered their negative opinion of the United States and 63% of the European Union. Sixty three percent of respondents said they were concerned about the growing isolation of Russia (relative to those who believe Russia is currently isolated). In November of 2014, 76% of respondents surveyed said they disapproved of Barack Obama, and 70% thought that America bears the responsibility for the deterioration in the bilateral relations. Americans’ attitude toward Russia underwent similar change. According the Gallup survey conducted in March of 2014, 68% of Americans saw Russia as an unfriendly or hostile country. At the end of 2013, only 40% of those polled saw Russia in such negative light, and in 2006 that number stood at 20%.

Взаимоотношения России со странами Европейского Союза ухудшились в последнее время, а российско-американские отношения находятся в состоянии кризиса. В июле 2014 года Исследовательский центр Пью опубликовал результаты глобально опроса, который зафиксировал рост негативных оценок российской политики. Отрицательное отношение к России высказали 45% опрошенных в Латинской Америке (по сравнению с 38% в 2013 г.), 72% американцев (43% в 2013 г.), и 74% европейцев (54% в 2013 г.). Декабрьский опрос Левада центра показал, что негативно к США относятся – 74% россиян, к ЕС – 63%. Беспокойство по поводу международной изоляции России высказали – 63% респондентов (в % от числа тех, кто считает, что страна находится в международной изоляции). В ноябре 2014 года 76% россиян выказали негативное отношение к президенту США Бараку Обаме, при этом 70% опрошенных считают, что охлаждение международных отношений вызвано происками Запада.
